Most of us put a lot of effort into training our bodies. The importance of cardiovascular training and strength training as a way of staying fit and healthy is well understood. However, we tend to not put as much effort towards our mental health and how our thoughts can impact our overall well-being. Have you ever found yourself stuck in negative thought patterns? Do you find it hard to block out unwanted thoughts and focus on important tasks? If so, brain training could be the solution.
The Human Brain is Plastic
Just as we can build muscle memory, we can also build thought habits. This phenomenon is known as “neuroplasticity”. That doesn’t mean the human brain is genuinely “made of plastic”, but rather that it can be moulded and shaped, and has a memory. If we think about certain things regularly or ruminate on certain emotions, those patterns reinforce themselves.
However, this can actually be used to your advantage. Training tools such as NeurOptimal® brain training can support your mental well-being and help you break out of consistent and persistent patterns that are not serving you well. With regular training, new habits and ways of seeing the world can be changed resulting in a more positive mindset.
Improve Your Cognitive Abilities
As people get older, it’s normal to experience slight cognitive decline. However, just as regular exercise can stave off physical decline as we age, brain training can help to improve cognitive function. As we age, our memory and attention can decrease which can be frustrating and have a negative effect on our mental health. Training for flexibility and resilience will aid positive aging which will impact all areas of one’s life from relationships, hobbies, day-to-day management and so much more. NeurOptimal® has been reported by seniors to provide greater focus, attention, improved sleep and improved quality of life overall.
Build Habits That Will Last a Lifetime
Yes we love NeurOptimal® and we would love everyone to benefit. If you don’t have access to a system, brain training in other forms is something anyone can do. Making simple changes to how you act and what you focus on each day can make a difference. Here are a few tips for your to consider:
- Try to focus on one task at a time, rather than multitasking
- Set a regular routine and try to stick to it
- If you are stressed or feeling negative emotions, allow yourself to process those feelings for a set time. Set an alarm, and when the allotted time is up, stop and focus on something else
- If you’re anxious or nervous, ask yourself what it is that makes you feel that way, and challenge those negative assumptions
- Replace negative thoughts with positive ones. Rather than “I can’t do this”, think “I’m getting better each time I try”.
Consistent Practice is the Key
Generally training the brain requires consistent focus and effort. This can be exhausting and can lead to frustration. Fortunately, with NeurOptimal, training occurs outside of conscious awareness which means you do not need to focus and training occurs with very little effort. With regular training, your brain learns new ways of being and often issues drop away or are better managed. Remember each person is unique and changes will occur at the right time for that individual.
